The African-American Healthcare Alliance of Fort Wayne, Infant Mortality Initiative (AAHA):

MISSION

The high number of infant mortality in Fort Wayne’s African American community is troubling and endemic.  As an organization of African American healthcare professionals whose mission is focused on combatting such deleterious health related circumstances, we at AAHA aspire to make a meaningful impact in decreasing these tragic instances of infant mortality in the community.

Through a new initiative that aims to address the aforementioned issue, we will partner with the community to:
Through pamphlets and other media, disseminate information to African American expecting mothers about infant mortality and morbidity
Develop active programs that address the main underlying causes of infant mortality. We will focus on but not be limited to early prenatal care and sudden infant deaths
Conduct research to support ongoing treatment and prevention of the problem and also highlight any disparities.

It is our belief that increasing awareness to these issues, coupled with providing health promotion strategies will reduce the numbers of infant deaths.
